This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Evaluate and underwrite loan applications, including credit assessments, income verification, asset documentation, appraisals, title checks, and related paperwork.
• Provide clear and concise approval, suspension, or denial decisions within the scope of delegated authority.
• Underwrite loans in accordance with current FHA, VA, USDA, and Conventional guidelines.
• Conduct manual underwriting for loans that do not receive AUS Approve/Eligible findings.
• Analyze and interpret complex income documentation for self-employed individuals (K-1s, Schedule C, 1120s, 1065s).
• Review substantial deposits, confirm funds for closing, and verify adequate reserves.
• Communicate conditions and the rationale behind decisions clearly and professionally to internal stakeholders.
• Ensure all underwritten loans comply with agency, investor, and federal regulations.
• Stay updated on changes in underwriting policies, loan products, and regulatory developments.
• Collaborate with processing and sales teams to foster an efficient and cooperative pipeline.
• A minimum of 3+ years of recent mortgage underwriting experience.
• Active DE (FHA) or SAR (VA) designation; possessing both is highly preferred.
• Experience with underwriting Down Payment Assistance (DPA) programs.
• Proficient in using the Encompass Loan Origination System.
• Experience analyzing complex borrower profiles, particularly for self-employed individuals and those with layered risk.
• Strong familiarity with AUS platforms (DU and LP) and the ability to assess manual files when required.
• In-depth knowledge of current investor, agency, and compliance standards.
• Exceptional analytical abilities, meticulous attention to detail, and effective time management skills.
• Capability to work independently in a fast-paced remote setting.
