This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Offer legal advice on recognized compliance risks and issues to assist with mortgage origination compliance and operations.
• Provide legal and compliance assistance for findings from regulatory examinations, regulatory or consumer complaints, and inquiries from stakeholders or counterparties, which includes conducting system-level research to aid in response preparation.
• Support the development of solutions related to regulatory findings identified through examinations, testing, and monitoring, focusing on the root cause of issues and necessary remediation.
• Deliver legal guidance on post-close suspense items to facilitate the timely resolution of conditions, minimize compliance-related delays, and ensure adherence to investor delivery timelines.
• Offer legal support for defects that lead to significant loan salability problems and collaborate across functions to devise corrective measures.
• Provide compliance legal support concerning the use of technology in originations, including the Company’s LOS, point of sale system, and proprietary technology solutions.
• Draft policies and procedures to comply with federal and state regulatory requirements, ensuring both accuracy and clarity throughout the organization.
• Act as a resource for compliance support escalations, delivering prompt legal analysis and practical guidance on regulatory inquiries.
• Prepare legal research, memoranda, and recommendations on compliance issues for senior counsel and leadership.
• Juris Doctorate (JD) from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA).
• A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in mortgage lending compliance.
• Familiarity with federal and state mortgage lending regulations, including but not limited to the Dodd Frank Wallstreet Reform Act, QM/ATR, RESPA, TILA, ECOA, HMDA, UDAAP, and SAFE Act.
• Experience in supporting compliance programs within the mortgage lending sector.
