Mobile Platform Tech Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Guide, mentor, and provide technical leadership to the mobile platform team, focusing on enabling product teams to operate efficiently through clear prioritization of platform initiatives.

• Establish, implement, and maintain engineering standards for mobile security, observability, performance, resilience, and release quality, continuously balancing enhancements with minimal impact on product team velocity.

• Serve as a hands-on technical leader in developing and maintaining shared mobile platform capabilities utilizing React Native and TypeScript.

• Participate in architectural decisions related to React Native, native modules, and integrations across Kotlin, Swift, Objective-C, and Java.

• Manage and enhance CI/CD pipelines, build reliability, release workflows, and deployment processes, which are crucial responsibilities for this position.

• Oversee mobile platform-level observability and crash reporting, including tools for logging, analytics, exception monitoring, and production stability; general service alerting is handled by product domain teams.

• Collaborate with product feature teams to ensure smooth release delivery, meet quality standards, and comply with regulatory requirements.

• Promote enhancements in automated testing practices, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing methodologies that boost confidence in release quality.

• Manage and coordinate production incident management and release activities, ensuring timely resolutions, clear communication, and robust operational control.

• Work alongside design and product teams to develop and maintain shared UI components, platform standards, and mobile design system capabilities.

• Encourage the adoption of new tools, processes, and standards across product teams through mentoring, documentation, and training, ensuring improvements are practically implemented, not just theoretically defined.

• Identify and pursue opportunities to enhance platform stability, developer productivity, and the long-term maintainability of the mobile application portfolio.

• Advocate for secure application development practices and support compliance-aligned delivery within a regulated banking environment.

• Assess tooling evolution when relevant, including considering potential future transitions such as a move to Expo, in close collaboration with the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in mobile engineering, with substantial time spent in roles such as Tech Lead, Mobile Platform Lead, Staff, or Principal Engineer.

• 4+ years of hands-on experience developing and maintaining mobile applications using React Native and TypeScript, which form the core of the technology stack.

• 4+ years of experience with native mobile development (Kotlin, Swift, Objective-C, or Java), essential for maintaining and supporting existing native libraries.

• Manage and enhance CI/CD pipelines, build reliability, release processes, deployment workflows, and broader developer workflows; this is a critical requirement for the role.

• Strong understanding of mobile architecture, including React Native bridges, native modules, and platform-level architectural decisions.

• Experience in owning or significantly improving mobile platform observability, crash reporting (e.g., Firebase Crashlytics, Sentry, Datadog), exception monitoring, and production incident management.

• Strong background in mobile testing strategies, encompassing unit, integration, and end-to-end testing (e.g., Detox, Appium, Jest) to enhance release confidence.

• Comprehensive understanding of mobile engineering standards regarding performance, resilience, reliability, and quality.

• 1+ years of experience leading a mobile platform team, demonstrating responsibility for technical direction, mentoring, and engineering standards.

• Proven track record of understanding product team requirements and prioritizing platform initiatives to eliminate blockers and accelerate product delivery.

• Demonstrated capability to drive the adoption of new tools and processes across teams through documentation, training, and hands-on mentoring, rather than merely setting standards.

• Experience in establishing and upholding a high-quality bar for a mobile codebase while managing the ongoing balance between standards and team velocity.

• Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills across engineering, product, design, and relevant compliance and regulatory stakeholders.

• Prior experience leading at least one significant technical or platform project from inception to completion.

• Experience managing or directly supervising engineers, with a focus on a people-first approach to technical leadership.
