This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.
β’ Cultivate and enhance relationships with independent agency partners across Michigan, acting as a reliable underwriting resource and champion for profitable growth.
β’ Discover avenues to expand Hastings' Middle Market Commercial portfolio by collaborating with agencies to secure profitable new business while adhering to underwriting discipline.
β’ Conduct visits to agencies and represent Hastings within the designated territory.
β’ Collaborate closely with Territory Sales Managers and internal business partners to assist in agency development and territory growth strategies.
β’ Review, assess, and underwrite new and renewal middle market commercial business in line with underwriting guidelines and authority levels.
β’ Evaluate commercial risks, exposures, pricing, and coverage requirements to support informed underwriting decisions.
β’ Maintain comprehensive knowledge of commercial products, coverages, pricing strategies, and underwriting appetite.
β’ Work in partnership with agents, policyholders, and internal business partners to provide responsive, service-oriented underwriting support.
β’ Collaborate with Marketing, Loss Control, Claims, and Underwriting teams to aid agency development and corporate growth objectives.
β’ Offer guidance on coverage interpretation, pricing considerations, and underwriting best practices to both internal and external stakeholders.
β’ Ensure adherence to underwriting directives, regulatory standards, and company policies regarding risk selection and pricing.
β’ Contribute to departmental training programs, professional development initiatives, and ongoing improvement efforts.
β’ A minimum of 5 years of commercial lines underwriting experience, ideally within Middle Market business segments.
β’ Proven track record of evaluating commercial risks and making sound underwriting decisions across diverse industries and exposures.
β’ Established ability to create, maintain, and enhance relationships with independent agency partners.
β’ Demonstrated knack for identifying new business opportunities and contributing to profitable commercial growth.
β’ Experience in balancing business development goals with disciplined risk selection and profitability targets.
β’ A Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Business, Finance, or a related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
β’ AU, CPCU, or other relevant industry designations are preferred.
β’ Strong understanding of commercial insurance products, coverages, pricing, and underwriting principles.
β’ Proficient in underwriting systems, agency management tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
β’ A valid driver's license and willingness to travel regularly within the assigned territory.
