MEP Estimator – Data Center Construction

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Conduct market research tailored to specific regions regarding mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

• Keep comprehensive records of historical project expenses, encompassing labor, materials, and equipment.

• Analyze past data to uncover trends, patterns, and possibilities for cost savings.

• Create conceptual budgets for MEP components based on market assessments and project outlines.

• Prepare precise estimates for labor, materials, and equipment costs.

• Produce cost variance reports during significant design milestones.

• Request and evaluate pricing from subcontractors, vendors, and OEMs for electrical distribution, generators, switchgear, UPS, mechanical cooling systems, plumbing, fire protection, fire alarm, BMS/controls, and low-voltage/security systems.

• Collaborate with general contractors and trade partners to align project costs and ensure scope coherence.

• Conduct comprehensive constructability reviews focused on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and low-voltage disciplines.

• Assist in creating thorough RFP documentation for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and low-voltage/security scopes.

• Draft specific language for RFPs to provide clear scope definitions and requirements.

• Aid in organizing and conducting site visits that focus on relevant elements.

• Perform bid leveling to compare and standardize proposals.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of estimating experience with a strong focus on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and low-voltage scopes in mission-critical, data center, or other heavy industrial projects.

• Demonstrated capability to estimate projects with a total construction value exceeding $50M.

• Proficient in performing quantity takeoffs for MEP systems, including electrical distribution and conduit/feeders, generators and switchgear, mechanical cooling and air handling, piping and plumbing, fire protection, fire alarm, BMS/controls, and structured cabling/low-voltage.

• Skilled in using estimating software (Destini, RIB CostX, WinEst, or similar) as well as Microsoft Excel.

• Strong understanding of data center-specific challenges, including critical power and cooling configurations, redundancy concepts, and the ability to read and interpret MEP drawings, single-line diagrams, and specifications.

• Familiarity with lead times for electrical and mechanical equipment and procurement strategies for long-lead items such as generators, switchgear, transformers, and UPS systems.

• Capability to work independently in a dynamic environment while collaborating effectively with the estimating team.
