
Mental Health Expert, Part-Time – Japanese Speaking

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan.
• Collaborate on sensitive projects aimed at AI safety and mental health policy concerning large language models (LLMs)
• Role-play clinical scenarios using AI agents
• Engage in red teaming exercises
• Identify behavioral edge cases
• Assist in the accurate identification and response to psychological distress
• Develop psychometrics, rubrics, behavioral taxonomies, and evaluations with a strong emphasis on ethics, safety, and adhering to best practices in clinical AI
• Design and evaluate AI chat scenarios
• Conduct qualitative analyses of conversations
• Create behavioral taxonomies, personas, and evaluation rubrics
• Offer expert feedback on internal mental health policies
• Work collaboratively with engineers and researchers to establish safety metrics
• Document edge cases and instances of model failures
• Assist in testing and refining through structured scenarios
• Uphold strict confidentiality and quality assurance standards
• Participate in interdisciplinary review sessions
• Proficient in Japanese
• Possess graduate-level training (either completed or in progress) in psychology, counseling, social work, psychiatry, or a related field
• Experience in crisis intervention, risk assessment, and managing severe psychopathology
• Familiarity with AI tools and large language models (LLMs)
• Strong comprehension of ethics and confidentiality protocols
• Ability to work remotely and utilize Slack, LLM tools, and Microsoft Office
• Comfort with ambiguity and a feedback-oriented work approach
• Willingness to sign non-disclosure agreements and handle sensitive content
• Availability for up to 10 hours per week and for occasional scheduled meetings
• Completed degree and/or relevant licensure
• Over 5 years of experience in clinical crisis settings
• Experience working with youth and young adults in clinical contexts
• Background in role-playing, theatre, or conversational design
• Experience in trust & safety, content moderation, or behavioral data labeling
• Interest in AI, NLP, or ML applications in clinical environments
• Active participation in online communities (e.g., Discord, Reddit)
