Medicare Billing Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kansas, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Prepare, review, and submit Medicare Part A & B claims for residents in skilled nursing facilities.

• Ensure billing is timely and accurate, adhering to CMS and SNF-specific guidelines.

• Verify the eligibility of resident insurance, including Medicare benefits and coverage.

• Monitor and reconcile claims to ensure correct payment, identifying and resolving any discrepancies.

• Efficiently track, appeal, and resolve any denied or rejected claims.

• Collaborate with MDS coordinators to guarantee that billing corresponds with clinical documentation under PDPM.

• Keep up to date with Medicare regulations, SNF billing codes, and HIPAA compliance.

• Communicate with Medicare MACs, community staff, and insurance providers as necessary.

• Generate aging reports and assist with collection efforts when necessary.

• Support audits and provide documentation for compliance evaluations.

• Previous experience in managing complex billing scenarios is required.

• High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.

• An associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.

• A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in billing within a LTC/SNF setting is essential.

• Extensive knowledge of billing procedures for all payer types, including Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance is required.

• Proficiency with billing software and electronic medical record (EMR) systems is essential.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment is necessary.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.

• A professional demeanor in both appearance and conduct is expected.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
