Medical Records Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Provide assistance at a designated client location for the Release of Information (ROI) requests pertaining to patient medical records.

• Evaluate the records to be released by reviewing the requestor's information in compliance with HIPAA guidelines.

• Acquire relevant patient data from various sources, including electronic, off-site, or physical records that correspond to patient requests.

• Address phone inquiries regarding various ROI matters.

• Assist walk-in clients seeking medical records and input information into the ROI On-Line database.

• Prioritize and process requests from physician offices, ensuring timely faxing of information to the respective offices.

• Record medical record requests in the ROI On-Line database.

• Digitally scan medical records into the ROI On-Line database.

• Adhere to the policies and regulations of the site facility.

• Manage and document cash payments for requests.

• Perform other assigned tasks as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 1 year of experience with Epic EMR.

• Proficient in using computer applications.

• At least one year of experience in data entry into computer systems.

• Required experience using the internet.

• Excellent verbal communication skills; proven success in addressing customer inquiries.

• Demonstrated ability to work in an environment requiring meticulous attention to detail.

• Established history of reliability.

• High School Diploma or GED is required.

• Previous experience in Release of Information within a physician’s office or Health Information Management (HIM) Department is advantageous.

• Familiarity with medical terminology is a plus.

• Understanding of HIPAA regulations is preferred.
