• Leverage available encoder and grouper software, along with other coding tools, to accurately identify the relevant ICD-10-CM, CPT, and/or HCPCS codes, including specialty-specific codes and Evaluation and Management (E&M) codes.
• Uphold a thorough understanding and application of the National Correct Coding Initiatives (NCCI), Local Coverage Documents, and National Coverage Documents (LCD/NCD) directives, Medically Unlikely Edits (MUEs), and Medicare Teaching Physician Guidelines, while utilizing knowledge of pertinent regulatory requirements and institutional policies to choose the correct codes and modifiers.
• High School Diploma or equivalent along with medical coding education is mandatory.
• Alternatively, an active coding certification is required in lieu of medical coding education.
• An Associate's Degree in a healthcare-related field is preferred.
• A minimum of 1 year of progressive coding experience is required (specific to HCC for HCC-specific roles).
• Preferred is 2 years of progressive coding experience across various specialties, particularly in HCC Risk Adjustment Coding.
• Upon hire, a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) is required, or a Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist Physician-Based (CCS-P), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) is also required.
• Preferred certifications include Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
