Coder I – Specialist, Hospital – Outpatient Emergency Room/Ancillary

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Conduct thorough reviews and coding of patient records across various clinical domains: Acute - Outpatient, Acute - All Inpatient Service Lines, and Ambulatory Level 3 Specialty Services, as detailed in the Franciscan Coding Tier Matrix.

• Adhere to established coding accuracy and productivity benchmarks while showcasing a solid understanding of coding standards, medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, reimbursement models, and payer-specific regulations.

• Examine and evaluate the contents of medical records to accurately assign ICD diagnosis procedure codes, CPT procedure codes, and modifiers in compliance with coding standards.

• Inform coding leadership of emerging trends and topics for educational purposes and provide feedback to physicians and departments.

• Identify and input data elements for abstraction purposes.

• Actively engage in performance improvement teams, initiatives, and committees.

• Function as a Superuser and support system testing efforts.

• Serve as a secondary resource for the coding reimbursement specialist.

• High School Diploma/GED - Required

• Associate's Degree in Health Information Management - Preferred

• Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management - Preferred

• 2 years of coding experience - Preferred

• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) - Required

• Certified Coding Specialist - Physician (CCS-P) from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) - Required

• Certified Coding Associate from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) - Required

• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) - Required

• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) - Required
