This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Wisconsin.
• Leverage encoder and grouper software along with various coding resources to identify the correct ICD-10-CM, CPT, and/or HCPCS codes, including specialty-specific codes and Evaluation and Management (E&M) codes.
• Stay informed and apply knowledge of National Correct Coding Initiatives (NCCI), Local Coverage Documents, and National Coverage Documents (LCD/NCD) directives, as well as Medically Unlikely Edits (MUEs) and Medicare Teaching Physician Guidelines, ensuring adherence to relevant regulations and institutional policies for accurate code and modifier selection.
• A medical coding education is required, or
• An active coding certification is mandatory in lieu of a medical coding education.
• At least 1 year of progressive coding experience is required (specific to HCC for HCC-specific roles).
• Preferred: 2 years of progressive coding experience across multiple specialties, with a focus on HCC Risk Adjustment Coding.
• Certification as a Professional Coder (CPC) upon hire is required, or
• Certification as an Outpatient Coder (COC) upon hire is required, or
• Certification as an Inpatient Coder (CIC) upon hire is required, or
• Certification as a Coding Specialist (CCS) upon hire is required, or
• Certification as a Coding Specialist Physician-Based (CCS-P) upon hire is required, or
• Certification as a Coding Associate (CCA) upon hire is required, or
• Certification as a Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC) upon hire is required, or
• Registration as a Health Information Technician (RHIT) upon hire is required, or
• Registration as a Health Information Administrator (RHIA) upon hire is required.
• Preferred: Registration as a Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registration as a Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
