
Medical Coding Specialist II – Orthopedics Outpatient, Multi Specialty

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Wisconsin.
• Leverage available encoder and grouper software, along with other coding resources, to accurately identify the relevant ICD-10-CM, CPT, and/or HCPCS codes, including specialty-specific codes and Evaluation and Management (E&M) codes.
• Maintain a thorough understanding and apply knowledge of National Correct Coding Initiatives (NCCI), Local Coverage Documents, and National Coverage Documents (LCD/NCD) directives, Medically Unlikely Edits (MUEs), and Medicare Teaching Physician Guidelines, ensuring the application of relevant regulatory requirements and institutional policies to select the appropriate codes and modifiers.
• High School Diploma or equivalent along with medical coding education is required, or
• An active coding certification is required in lieu of medical coding education.
• An Associate's Degree in a healthcare-related field is preferred.
• A minimum of 1 year of progressive coding experience is required.
• A minimum of 2 years of progressive coding experience across multiple specialties is preferred.
• Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) is required upon hire, or
• Certification as a Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) is required upon hire, or
• Certification as a Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) is required upon hire, or
• Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) is required upon hire, or
• Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist Physician-Based (CCS-P) is required upon hire, or
• Certification as a Certified Coding Associate (CCA) is required upon hire, or
• Certification as a Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC) is required upon hire, or
• Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) is required upon hire, or
• Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) is required upon hire.
• Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) is preferred, or
• Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) is preferred.
