Medical Coding Specialist I – Outpatient

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Examine outpatient medical records to gather clinical, pathological, therapeutic, and epidemiological data.

• Implement ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding guidelines to guarantee precise and compliant clinical data.

• Confirm patient demographics, admission details, discharge information, and treatment data prior to coding.

• Assign and prioritize principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures with the utmost level of specificity.

• Maintain coding precision to facilitate research, reimbursement, planning, statistics, and regulatory reporting.

• Input and preserve accurate coding data across various databases and information systems.

• Fulfill assigned case volumes, corrections, and special coding projects in accordance with established standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 2 years of relevant clinical coding experience.

• Comprehensive understanding of ICD-10-CM coding, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.

• Familiarity with coding software such as Epic or other systems (like 3M/Solventum Encoder) is advantageous.

• Previous experience in coding ambulatory settings, methods of administration/chemotherapy administration, clinical diagnosis, and/or procedural coding is preferred.

• Capacity to maintain strict confidentiality of protected health information.

• CPC or CSS certification is mandatory.
