Medical Coding Specialist – Cardiology, Vascular and CVTS

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Evaluates medical record documentation and accurately assigns the appropriate ICD-9-CM, ICD-10, CPT IV, and HCPCS codes utilizing 3M software tools for all outpatient work types.

• The assigned codes must align with the reason for the visit and the medical necessity as documented by the provider to substantiate the care provided.

• When applicable, apply necessary charges such as Evaluation & Management (E&M) levels, injections, infusions, and/or other requirements for observation cases, using third-party software systems like LYNX.

• Accurately abstract required data according to facility specifications.

• Conduct "medical necessity checks" for Medicare and other payers as mandated by payment guidelines.

• Responsible for monitoring and addressing accounts that are Discharged Not Final Billed, failed claims, stop bills, and epremis as a team, ensuring the timely and compliant processing of outpatient claims in the billing system.

• Accountable for maintaining established productivity requirements and key performance indicators for 3M 360 CAC for CRS & Direct Code, while ensuring accuracy to uphold established quality standards.

• Stay informed about current requirements from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), including National Coverage Determinations (NCD) and Local Coverage Determinations (LCD) guidelines, related to modifier assignment, to guarantee the submission of a clean claim on the first attempt.

• Maintain competency and accuracy while utilizing essential tools of the trade, such as the 3M encoder, Computerized Assisted Coding (CAC), Medical Necessity software, abstracting systems, code books, and all reference materials.

• Report any inaccuracies found in coding software to HIM Management/Supervisor and any potential unethical or fraudulent activity per compliance policy.

• Attend required system, hospital, and departmental meetings and educational sessions as designated by leadership, along with completing necessary annual learning programs to ensure ongoing education and growth.


⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 1 year of prior coding experience in Cardiology, Vascular, or Thoracic Surgery specialties.

• Proficient in PC and computer applications.

• Basic navigational expertise and functionality in Microsoft business software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

• Strong organizational skills along with excellent communication, time management, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.

• Capability to multitask and prioritize tasks to meet both short- and long-term timelines.

• Experience with EPIC and previous usage of coding software tools.

• Must possess curiosity and openness to innovation, including AI, to explore improved processes and reduce friction, enhancing patient and client experiences.
