Medical Coding Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Examine medical records documentation to choose and arrange the correct ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes.

• Confirm that the appropriate CPT-4/HCPCS procedure codes are included.

• Record charges for laboratory services, radiology, supplies, and medical procedures in emergency facilities, inpatient, observation, and ancillary service records.

• Analyze clinical documentation and diagnostic outcomes to assign ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, HCPCS, and facility-level Evaluation & Management codes for billing purposes.

• Extract and code diagnoses and procedures from health records utilizing the relevant classification systems.

• Participate in mandatory staff or company-sponsored meetings.

• Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED is required.

• CPC, CPC-H, CIC, COS, CCS, or another coding certification is preferred, OR RHIA or RHIT certification with a minimum of 3 years of experience is required.

• At least 3 years of experience in coding with ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and CPT codes is required.

• Experience in coding emergency or hospital ancillary services is preferred.

• Proficient understanding of pathophysiology, anatomy, medical terminology, coding systems, techniques, and procedures is preferred.

• Competence in Microsoft Office Tools (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook) is required.

• Familiarity with patient accounting systems is preferred.

• Experience with Stockell InsightCS patient accounting system, EPIC Community Connect, Cerner, and/or PICIS EMR is preferred.

• Experience and knowledge in calculating and applying IV Infusion and Injection codes is preferred.

• Comprehensive understanding of all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines and regulations is required.

• ICD 10 Training/Education is necessary.

• Proficiency in English, both written and oral communication, is required.
