• Implement the appropriate coding classification standards and guidelines for medical record documentation to ensure accurate coding.
• Conduct quality assessments of records, verifying both electronic and handwritten medical record documentation.
• Evaluate the quality of completed work by coders to ensure adherence to established standards.
• Provide education to coders and other personnel on the correct coding guidelines.
• Investigate errors or missing documentation in medical records to facilitate accurate coding processes.
• Abstract and assign the correct ICD-10 and HCPCS/CPT codes, including Level I & Level II modifiers as necessary for all diagnoses and procedures in outpatient and inpatient settings.
• Assist in developing and maintaining processes and procedures for each assigned client concerning system use, billing/coding rules, and specific client guidelines.
• Effectively manage time to meet all client and departmental deadlines and requirements.
• Collaborate regularly with the Department Manager and other team members in a team-oriented environment.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, standards, and laws.
• Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent experience.
• Experience: 5 years of medical abstract coding/auditing Pro-Fee experience required. At least 3 years of experience in coding audits or quality review work is necessary.
• Certifications: Auditing Certification through AAPC (CPMA) required.
