This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Works collaboratively with coding and clinical documentation integrity management, playing a vital role in ensuring the precision, completeness, and adherence to compliance standards of coding practices within the organization.
• Designs and implements coding education initiatives, performs routine coding audits, evaluates coding data to discern trends and areas needing enhancement, and acts as a subject matter expert on coding guidelines and regulations.
• Cultivates a culture of ongoing education and coding excellence among our coding personnel and clinical documentation team for the precise and timely assignment of diagnostic and procedural codes for intricate patient cases.
• Offers expert-level coding assistance, training, and quality reviews for all coding personnel.
• Serves as a subject matter expert, ensuring compliance in coding, data integrity, process enhancements, system implementations and upgrades, and optimal reimbursement while fostering the professional growth of the coding team.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Nursing, or a related healthcare discipline, along with 4 years of inpatient coding experience in an acute care environment is required.
• Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
• Expert-level coding knowledge, encompassing a thorough understanding of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS, MS-DRGs, APR-DRGs, APCs, and NCCI edits is preferred.
• Strong familiarity with HIPAA, CMS regulations, OIG guidelines, and other pertinent healthcare compliance standards is preferred.
• Capability to analyze complex data, recognize trends, and formulate actionable insights is preferred.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to convey complex information clearly and succinctly to diverse audiences is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to create effective training materials and deliver captivating educational sessions is preferred.
• Proficient in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, coding encoder software, and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is preferred.
• Strong aptitude for building relationships, collaborating effectively, and providing constructive feedback is preferred.
• Meticulous attention to detail in auditing and documentation review is preferred.
• A proactive approach to identifying and addressing coding and documentation challenges is preferred.
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) OR Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) OR Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) is required upon hire.
