This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Create and design heat rejection and HVAC systems specifically for data centers.

• Choose suitable air- and water-side cooling solutions, which include fan wall units, CRAHs, chilled water, DX, CRAC, in-row cooling, and containment options.

• Perform internal and external computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations and evaluate the results.

• Suggest design enhancements and improve the performance of heat rejection and HVAC systems.

• Coordinate design modifications and their implications with other project disciplines.

• Design redundant and fault-tolerant HVAC systems, encompassing backup cooling, automatic switchover, and monitoring solutions.

• Execute heat load calculations and capacity planning for both current and future data center needs.

• Calculate HVAC loads for administrative and shared facility areas.

• Implement energy-efficient HVAC strategies, such as economizers, variable speed drives, energy recovery, and airflow optimization.

• Design air filtration systems and mechanisms for monitoring air quality.

• Address issues related to particulate matter, humidity regulation, and contaminant removal.

• Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to ensure HVAC integration with electrical infrastructure, UPS, emergency power, fire suppression, and other essential systems.

• Engage in a hands-on, client-facing role on significant data center projects for global clients.

• Work collaboratively with AECOM teams worldwide.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree with over 6 years of relevant experience or a proven equivalency of experience and/or education.

• Familiarity with the installation and operation of mechanical and electrical equipment in data centers.

• P.E. registration is mandatory.

• A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, HVAC engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited university is typically required.

• Understanding of data center TIER Standard Topology as defined by Uptime Institute, TIA 942, and ANSI/BICSI 002.

• Sponsorship is not available for this position.

• Attendance at in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office is a condition of employment.

• A Master’s degree or advanced coursework in HVAC systems or energy management is preferred.

• Professional HVAC certifications such as CEM, BEMP, or LEED accreditation are advantageous.
