This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Collaborate with a team of highly skilled engineers, technicians, surveyors, and drafters to deliver exceptional client service.
• Work schedule: 14 days on-site followed by 14 days off, during which you will travel to and from the site. Travel can be arranged anywhere within an 8-hour flight radius from Terrace, BC, Canada.
• Perform laboratory soil and aggregate testing, including Sieve Analysis, Standard and Modified Proctor tests, Specific Gravity, Unit Weight, Soil Salinity, Sand Equivalent, Hydrometers, Atterberg Limits, and more.
• Carry out laboratory concrete testing, focusing on the compressive strength of concrete cylinders and cubes.
• Execute concrete field sampling and testing, including assessments of air content, slump, temperature, and plastic density.
• Conduct field compaction testing using a nuclear densometer for soil and aggregate.
• Supervise and mentor junior staff on materials testing projects both in the field and laboratory settings. Provide training for new employees.
• Oversee quality management of the materials testing laboratory, including preparation for audits and certifications, routine calibrations, and maintenance of equipment.
• Must be capable of acting as a Radiation Safety Officer and managing CCIL certification procedures.
• Prepare daily test reports.
• A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology along with a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience, or an equivalent blend of education and experience.
• A C.Tech or A.SCT designation, or eligibility to obtain one, is considered an asset.
• CCIL Certification for Type C, Type D, and Type Q (or ACI Equivalent) is a valuable asset.
• Experience in coordinating CCIL calibrations and laboratory audits.
• Experience with setting up a Lab Information Management (LIMS) system is a plus.
• Prior related experience in providing materials testing and conducting geotechnical investigations/field reviews, along with Quality Control and Quality Assurance in both field and laboratory environments.
• Physically fit, capable of lifting heavy equipment, willing to work in diverse environmental conditions with varied terrain, and able to operate in wildlife-populated areas and remote locations when necessary.
• Willingness to work long hours during peak seasons to meet project demands.
• A positive attitude and a cooperative spirit as a team player.
• Previous supervisory and/or leadership experience is advantageous.
