This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alaska.
• Biologists embark on voyages that typically range from two to ten days aboard vessels measuring between 40 to 125 feet in length.
• They meticulously document the gear and fishing activities of the vessel.
• A station is established on the deck to gather catch and bycatch data, while also recording interactions with marine mammals and seabirds.
• Following a three-week (in-person) paid training session in Seattle, WA from (7/13/2026 - 7/31/2026), biologists will be deployed from various ports across Alaska.
• The types of gear utilized include benthic and pelagic trawls, hook and line, and pots.
• Observing is recognized as an outstanding career in marine biology, with Biologists being acknowledged as proficient and capable field specialists.
• A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the natural sciences.
• A minimum of 30 semester hours or equivalent in biological sciences.
• At least one course that involved extensive use of dichotomous keys.
• A minimum of five semester hours in mathematics, which must include one course in statistics.
• All relevant coursework must have been completed at a level acceptable for credit at the candidate’s academic institution.
• Proficiency in data entry on computers is required.
• Candidates must be U.S. citizens.
• Candidates must possess physical capability, as verified by a licensed physician’s certification, to perform the duties of a biologist.
