Manager, Safety & Training – Transit Operations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Missouri.

📋 Description

• Drive and uphold a positive safety culture across the organization.

• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and leadership teams to promote safety initiatives and ongoing improvement efforts.

• Execute and endorse Safety Management System (SMS) programs, plans, and initiatives.

• Supervise safety incentive programs and track performance metrics.

• Manage reporting requirements for the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Drug and Alcohol Management Information System (DAMIS).

• Act as the Drug Program Manager for the location, ensuring compliance with FTA and DOT regulations.

• Oversee workers' compensation and insurance claims programs, aiding in claim resolution and cost containment efforts.

• Lead local safety committees, fostering employee involvement in safety initiatives.

• Provide classroom, behind-the-wheel, and operational training programs in line with contract and company specifications.

• Ensure that new hires fulfill all necessary qualifications, including background checks and motor vehicle screening requirements.

• Maintain, review, and update safety policies, procedures, and training materials.

• Investigate incidents involving vehicles, passengers, employees, and workplaces; assess preventability, identify trends, and implement corrective training actions.

• Support internal, client, corporate, and regulatory audits and inspections.

• Work with leadership to develop and facilitate safety meetings and educational programs.

• Offer leadership, coaching, and development to personnel in the safety department.

• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or a comparable combination of education and experience.

• At least five (5) years of experience in transit or paratransit safety management.

• Prior leadership or management experience.

• Comprehensive understanding of ADA, FTA, DOT, and associated regulatory requirements.

• Experience in implementing safety programs and conducting investigations.

• Valid driver's license.

• Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and DOT physical, if required.

• Strong knowledge of safety regulations, compliance obligations, and risk mitigation strategies.

• Exceptional communication and presentation skills.

• Strong organizational and analytical skills.

• Capability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence the safety culture.

• Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.

• Keen attention to detail and documentation practices.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office and reporting systems.

• Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with various departments.

• Local and overnight travel may be necessary.

• Candidates may be expected to operate a company or rental vehicle in accordance with company policies and motor vehicle standards.
