This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop and manage the Business-to-Business (B2B) strategy for B2B Prefills, transport packaging, and various models including closed loop, semi-closed, and open-loop, while closely collaborating with state-level teams to customize solutions based on specific state requirements.
• Analyze the landscape and create strategies to enhance conversion rates to reuse/refill for B2B packaging categories, including industrial and commercial channels (such as retailers, food services, hotels, etc.) and supply chains/routes (for example, between producer and retailer, and from retailer distribution centers to retail locations), in compliance with state-level extended producer responsibility (EPR) laws and regulations—while identifying opportunities for synergy and harmonization across states.
• Engage with industry associations or other conveners, initiate and launch Requests for Information and Requests for Proposals, identify viable pilot projects that can be scaled, or explore other methods to foster industry/producer alliances in key B2B sectors.
• Collaborate to advance standardized reusable packaging formats that align with the CAA investment strategy. Initial efforts will focus on California, with consideration for harmonization with other EPR states where suitable.
• Lead projects for successful B2B proposals and initiatives, establishing a framework for ongoing engagement and executing a multi-year plan to develop reusable packaging solutions for various product types.
• Initiate and manage a Reuse/Refill Innovation Fund to gather ideas from the Producer Community. Oversee the selection process for successful proponents and implement the engagement framework to drive towards common solutions.
• Evaluate pilot results, operational insights, infrastructure implications, and economic factors to inform future reuse/refill strategies, investments, and program development.
• Establish best practices, case studies, and practical tools.
• Collaborate with other Food Serviceware and Business-to-Consumer Reuse/Refill sectors to evaluate how B2B infrastructure needs can align with current and future requirements for reuse services and infrastructure.
• Determine if similar or distinct ecosystem standards, metrics, and reporting are required compared to other Reuse/Refill sectors to meet individual state EPR obligations.
• Formulate strategies to accelerate the adoption of B2B reusable solutions (such as RFPs, Early Mover Incentives, etc.).
• Contribute input on proposed regulations and reuse/refill initiatives in other states.
• Act as a reliable technical and strategic resource for producers, local jurisdictions, NGOs, and reusable service providers.
• Stay informed about innovations in B2B reuse/refill systems.
• Build and maintain relationships with producers, trade associations, reuse service providers, local governments, NGOs, startups, and other innovators or leaders in the reuse/refill field.
• Act as a trusted technical and strategic consultant to producers, regulators, municipalities, NGOs, and reuse operators.
• Represent CAA and communicate its approach to reuse/refill at board meetings, public consultations, conferences, and working groups.
• Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields (Business, Operations/Supply Chain, Engineering, Sustainability, or similar).
• Over 5 years of experience in a business-to-business environment, including program costs and financial management.
• Proven experience in designing and executing programs in reuse/refill, recycling, sustainability, waste management, operations, reverse logistics, or a related field is preferred.
• Familiarity with various reusable business models (such as ownership, lease, pooled services) is preferred.
• An established network in the Business-to-Business reusables sector is preferred.
• Competitive salary and performance-based incentives.
• Opportunities for professional development and career advancement.
• Flexible work arrangements and a supportive work environment.
