This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as the University’s expert on employee health and welfare benefits as well as 401(k) plans.
• Oversee benefits programs for employees located in California and other states.
• Collaborate with the benefits broker, Finance, Payroll, and HRIS teams.
• Provide guidance to HR staff in offering employee support.
• Serve as the authority on ACA, San Francisco Healthcare Security Ordinance, and University procedures.
• Supervise IRS 5500 reporting, 401(k) plan audits, non-discrimination testing, ACA reporting, and Medicare Part D notices.
• Manage 401(k) plan enrollments, loans, distributions, and vendor partnerships.
• Work alongside Payroll on benefit deductions, contributions, and repayments.
• Perform monthly enrollment reconciliations across various plans including medical, dental, vision, life, COBRA, FSAs, and others.
• Review, authorize, and facilitate payment for benefit plan billing.
• Lead the annual Open Enrollment process, encompassing planning, system configuration, employee communications, and vendor integrations.
• Maintain benefit plan documentation, employee notifications, and regulatory submissions.
• Suggest and implement process enhancements and benefit strategies that align with the University’s objectives.
• A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is highly preferred.
• Proven experience in managing a benefits program, including budget oversight, within a for-profit organization.
• Strong computer proficiency.
• Experience with HRIS, preferably Workday.
• Advanced skills in Excel.
• Demonstrated capabilities in leadership, coaching, and decision-making.
• Exceptional attention to detail with proven experience in auditing and compliance.
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
• A history of managing multiple complex projects at once.
• Comprehensive knowledge of benefit plan design and relevant federal/state regulations (HIPAA, COBRA, ACA, 401(k), Section 125).
• A customer service-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work independently and adjust to evolving business requirements in a remote setting.
• Availability to work Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm PST.
