This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Act as the system lead and design authority for the Ex-Vessel Fuel Handling System.
• Direct the engineering and implementation of fuel handling machinery, hot cells, and specialized casks for Natrium Reactor Plants.
• Oversee a multidisciplinary design engineering team and manage subcontractors and suppliers.
• Review and authorize engineering design documentation.
• Manage design configuration and interfaces.
• Ensure engineering tasks comply with quality, technical, and procedural standards.
• Supervise technical work performed by suppliers, partners, and vendors.
• Identify technical and project risks related to system design and operation.
• Provide ongoing leadership in safety, quality, and technical excellence.
• Create staffing plans; recruit, train, and develop team members.
• Allocate technical tasks based on schedule, resources, and budget constraints.
• Track team performance against schedule and budget objectives.
• Develop technical work scope and cost estimates for design and delivery projects.
• Assist Project Management with project scheduling and maintenance.
• Collaborate with Plant Design Engineering, Project Management, Procurement, Operations, Quality Assurance, Testing, interfacing systems, Nuclear Licensing, Materials and Chemistry, Engineering Analysis, and Nuclear Design.
• Report directly to the Senior Manager of Fuel Handling Systems.
• Willingness to travel 20–25% of the time.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution (Mechanical, Nuclear, Chemical, Systems, Civil, or a related field).
• Over 10 years of experience in design and/or engineering management of systems and/or components.
• Proven experience in preparing and approving specifications, calculations, drawings/diagrams, and other design documentation is essential.
• Familiarity with quality standards, particularly ASME NQA-1.
• Background in designing or overseeing nuclear cranes and hoists, below-the-hook lifting devices, storage and transportation casks, cask transporters, hot cell design, or hot cell equipment and process design.
• Ability to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously and work independently to resolve multidisciplinary issues.
• High levels of trust and integrity, effective communication, respect, and a commitment to fostering teamwork.
• Candidates must satisfy the applicable ANSI/ANS 3.1 minimum education and experience requirements.
• U.S. Government export-control review may be applicable to foreign nationals.
