Manager, Data Engineering, Analytics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Lead and oversee The Helper Bees' Data Engineering & Analytics team.

• Offer mentorship, guidance, and support for both technical and professional growth.

• Design, implement, and maintain data products utilizing Python, SQL, dbt, Airflow, BigQuery, and other modern technologies.

• Manage work intake, triage, prioritization, and scheduling in Jira.

• Establish a dbt-first, governed approach with reliable, traceable, and automated models.

• Spearhead the expansion into predictive and prescriptive analytics, including forecasting, recommendation engines, and clustering/segmentation.

• Set strategic goals for the team that align with the company's data objectives.

• Collaborate with Product, Accounts, Operations, C-suite leaders, external clients, and partners.

• Monitor team performance via feedback, code reviews, and training initiatives.

• Produce high-quality, testable, maintainable code and establish coding standards.

• Enhance deployment, sprint planning, monitoring, incident response, escalation, and workflows.

• Promote the adoption of AI tools such as Cursor and Claude Code.

• Troubleshoot complex issues across data pipelines and models.

• Oversee the data team's contributions to monthly close and scorecard reporting, including reports and invoices for clients and partners.

• Assess and enhance data quality, reporting timeliness, code quality, stakeholder satisfaction, scalability, and overall team productivity.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems, or a related field; relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

• 5+ years of experience in data analytics, data engineering, or a related data discipline, with increasing levels of responsibility.

• 2+ years of hands-on experience as a Data Engineer or in a highly technical data role.

• 2+ years of direct experience in people leadership, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and driving team execution.

• Demonstrated ability to craft, communicate, and advocate for a strategic direction for a data team.

• Strong leadership, team management, data analysis, and presentation capabilities.

• Experience in building and enhancing data warehouses and modern data pipelines.

• Extensive experience with SQL and data engineering, including ETL/ELT solutions.

• Proficiency in BigQuery, dbt, Airflow, and Python is required.

• Familiarity with Tableau, Salesforce data, and Azure/Synapse is advantageous; PostgreSQL and PowerBI are nice-to-have.

• Experience managing an intake and prioritization process, such as in Jira.

• Knowledge of machine learning and data science, including forecasting/time-series methods, recommendation engines, and clustering/segmentation.

• Familiarity with pandas and scikit-learn.

• Hands-on experience with ML and exposure to deploying/monitoring models in production is strongly preferred.

• Willingness to drive AI-assisted development and analytics tooling.

• Experience managing sensitive data responsibly; familiarity with HIPAA/PHI handling is strongly preferred.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

• Must be 18 years of age or older.

• Proven experience leading complex data initiatives from strategy through execution, including migrations or platform transitions.

• Experience in delivering or leading predictive/prescriptive analytics or machine-learning models is preferred.

• Reliable internet connection and a suitable work environment for professional calls and sensitive data handling.

• Capability to remain at a designated workstation throughout the workday and operate a computer and office productivity machinery.
