This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Oversees a team of Content Development personnel, managing staff performance and all related human resource activities.
• Establishes best practices for selecting suitable content for various psychology-related databases and collaborates with the Director of Content Management to monitor ongoing collection development.
• Cultivates relationships with journal and book publishers to ensure their content is included in databases, which may involve sensitive communications with publishers and editors.
• Negotiates coverage and licensing agreements as well as electronic feed processes with publishers to ensure efficient, cost-effective processing formats.
• Engages with APA IT regarding e-feed arrangements and the connections between publishers and Content Development personnel.
• Formulates and enforces coverage policies for journals, books, and other content within databases.
• Develops and manages budgets for the content development team and resources.
• Anticipates 5-10% of domestic and international travel.
• A Bachelor's degree is mandatory; a Master’s degree is highly desirable.
• Preferred academic background includes psychology or a closely related social science field.
• A minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in scholarly or professional publishing and/or an editorial environment is essential.
• At least 3-5 years of experience in contract negotiations, specifically involving content licensing agreements (ideally within scholarly publishing).
• Proficiency in copyright and/or Creative Commons licenses is necessary.
• Experience should encompass the management of complex, deadline-sensitive programs; budgeting; knowledge of permissions; and culturally aware oral and written communication, including public speaking skills.
• Required computer skills: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar software, Adobe Acrobat, Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel or similar, Advanced usage of Vendor/Production Systems, Advanced skills in Web- and App-Based Search Systems, XML proficiency, and user experience with videoconferencing software (e.g., Zoom, Teams).
