This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Oversees a team of Content Development personnel, managing staff performance and all related personnel activities.
• Establishes best practices for selecting suitable content for various psychology-focused databases and collaborates with the Director of Content Management to monitor ongoing collection development.
• Cultivates relationships with journal and book publishers to ensure their content is included in databases, involving potentially sensitive discussions with publishers and editors.
• Engages in negotiations for coverage and licensing agreements as well as electronic feed processes with publishers to ensure efficient and cost-effective content processing.
• Collaborates with APA IT on e-feed arrangements and the integration between publishers and the Content Development team.
• Creates and enforces coverage policies for journals, books, and other content within databases.
• Responsible for developing and managing budgets for content development resources and staff.
• Anticipates 5-10% travel, both domestic and international.
• A Bachelor's degree is mandatory; a Master’s degree is highly preferred.
• Ideal candidates will have academic experience in psychology or a closely related social science field.
• A minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in scholarly or professional publishing and/or editorial settings is required.
• 3-5 years of experience in contract negotiation, particularly in relation to content licensing agreements (preferably within scholarly publishing).
• Familiarity with copyright and/or Creative Commons licenses is necessary.
• Experience must encompass the management of complex, deadline-oriented programs; budgeting; knowledge of permissions; and culturally aware oral and written communication, including public speaking abilities.
• Required computer skills include: advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar, Adobe Acrobat usage, intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel or similar, advanced knowledge of Vendor/Production Systems, web- and app-based search systems, XML usage, and videoconferencing software (Zoom, Teams, etc.).
