Manager, Clinical Documentation Integrity

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Oversee the daily functions of the Carle Health Clinical Documentation Integrity program.

• Manage, recruit, train, and assess the performance of the CDI team.

• Conduct professional development initiatives.

• Ensure that productivity, accuracy, quality, timeliness, and compliance standards are upheld.

• Monitor and enhance metrics related to case mix index, mortality, and severity of illness.

• Gather, analyze, and present data on CDI, provider queries, and documentation.

• Design and implement projects aimed at improving CDI processes.

• Collaborate with HIM physician advisors, medical staff leaders, vendors, coding leadership, and Revenue Cycle leaders.

• Create and deliver educational programs for providers, medical staff, coders, CDI personnel, and other staff members.

• Review and formulate policies and procedures that support compliant CDI workflows.

• Generate reports and communicate CDI metrics to both internal and external teams.

• Liaise with software vendors and external consulting organizations.

• Ensure software effectiveness, data integrity, and adherence to vendor contracts.

• Participate in and lead multidisciplinary teams focused on developing best practices for Clinical Documentation Improvement.

• Provide feedback regarding exceptional and substandard CDI performance.

• Present CDI metrics during departmental and external meetings.

• Assess ongoing requirements for coding and DRG assignment annually in collaboration with coding managers.

• Assist the HIM Director in budgeting for the CDI department.

⛳️ Requirements

• RHIA or CCS certification, or a Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) within 6 months if licensed in another state.

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Health Information Administration.

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in healthcare management.

• At least 3 years of experience in inpatient coding and/or clinical documentation.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

• Familiar with Epic software.

• Up-to-date knowledge of all coding guidelines.

• Understanding of Medicare coding guidelines and regulations.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
