Maintenance Technician – Solar Monitoring System

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Ensure that all equipment is properly leveled;

• Maintain cleanliness of all equipment;

• Verify that there is no debris hindering the system (this may include grass cutting, snow removal, or brush clearing depending on the site/region);

• Confirm that the system is secure and has not been tampered with.

• Each maintenance visit should last between 15 to 30 minutes.

• UL mandates a weekly Excel logbook to be uploaded online, along with photos and other documentation to validate the visit, which should take approximately 30 to 45 minutes.

• The total time commitment each week should range from 2 to 4 hours, depending on your travel time to and from the site.

• Occasionally, UL may request your help in replacing or troubleshooting equipment. A Senior Engineer will reach out to guide you through the process, providing support onsite and reviewing data after equipment repairs.

⛳️ Requirements

• Previous solar experience is not necessary.

• Training will be provided either onsite or remotely through phone or video calls.

• Must be capable of following instructions remotely.

• Personal transportation to and from the remote SMS location is required (4-wheel drive is preferred).

• Should be willing to walk no more than ¼ mile in one direction.

• Must possess a gas or battery-operated weedwacker if grass cutting is needed.

• Required to climb an 8-foot ladder (provided by UL).

• Ability to maintain equipment using a level, screwdriver, or other hand tools is essential.

• Must be prepared to cover shipping or other minor costs occasionally, which will be reimbursed by UL.

• Basic computer skills are necessary, including the ability to upload attachments using your own version of Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) to SharePoint with reliable internet access.

• A smartphone is required for taking site photos and for communication with UL staff during emergencies.
