Linguist – Nigerian Pidgin

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Analyze live or recorded communications in Nigerian Pidgin and produce verbal and written summaries and transcriptions as required by the project.

• Convey essential information to the Client (law enforcement personnel) promptly while supporting live monitoring efforts.

• Develop and sustain a comprehensive list of slang terms and codes used by a specific group/organization throughout the project/case.

• Create and maintain a voice library for the entire duration of the project.

• Transcribe and translate relevant calls and documents as assigned by the supervisor.

• Generate court-ready (accurate, well-formatted, and complete) transcriptions of relevant calls, chats, and documents in the required format.

• Utilize project reference tools and materials developed during the project to ensure precision and consistency.

• Transcribe a minimum of 16 minutes of recorded conversation within an 8-hour workday (in accordance with required format and quality standards).

• Operate specialized government-provided software and equipment (e.g., JSI voice box, Pen-link, Comverse, and other communications-collection tools) at the assigned site.

• Keep a daily productivity log in line with project requirements.

• Perform related tasks as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

• At least one (1) year of translation experience in the required language.

• Understanding of Nigerian Pidgin colloquialisms, slang terms, and regional expressions.

• Familiarity with SMS shorthand, social media terminology, and web chat communications.

• Exceptional verbal and written skills in the target language, including correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

• Ability to achieve a score of 3 or higher on a third-party language assessment (Listening/Speaking/Reading/Writing) in both English and Nigerian Pidgin.

• Strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

• Ability to type at a speed of 45 words per minute.
