Linguist Contractor – Japanese

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Review and improve AI/machine-translated documents in Phrase TMS (translation tool/CAT editor).

• Evaluate and edit, or review and provide feedback on translated materials (outside of Phrase) across various formats, including assets for both print and digital applications (for example: videos, PPTs, PDFs, documents, eLearning modules, digital assessments, and self-paced digital content).

• Consistently apply designated glossaries, style guides, and translation memories across project outputs.

• Grasp the terminology and preferences of both BTS and the client.

• Proactively identify and flag any concerns regarding scope, timelines, or quality.

• Adhere to all established project deadlines.

• Collaborate closely with the NAM Translation team on projects and deliverables.

• Utilize Box (a cloud-based service) to access and share files with the team.

• Participate in occasional video calls with the NAM Translation team, the local BTS team, or the local client team (this is infrequent but may occur for large-scale, strategic projects).

⛳️ Requirements

• A native Japanese speaker.

• Proficient in English (both written and verbal).

• Residing in the United States (or North America).

• At least 3 years of experience in professional translation, localization, or translation review.

• Capable of working independently and managing time effectively to meet project deadlines.

• An exceptional communicator, able to convey changes in both English and the target language.

• Detail-oriented, exhibiting a high level of meticulousness.

• Adaptable - understands the nature of translation and corporate work, with flexible availability to accept such tasks.

• Capable of maintaining confidentiality - will adhere to BTS and client data security and IP policies.

• A team player, willing to engage with the NAM Translation team, the local BTS team, or the local client team (if required).
