
Licensed Therapist β Student Athlete Mental Health

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
β’ Deliver confidential individual behavioral health counseling through secure virtual video and/or telephone sessions.
β’ Provide brief, goal-focused, solution-oriented therapy tailored to each student-athlete's clinical requirements.
β’ Conduct initial clinical screenings, intake assessments, risk evaluations, and set individualized treatment objectives.
β’ Apply evidence-based interventions including CBT and, when applicable, DBT.
β’ Address issues such as performance anxiety, academic and athletic stress, anxiety and mild depressive symptoms, adjustment and life transitions, injury recovery, team and interpersonal conflicts, sleep issues, motivation, and stress management.
β’ Track clinical progress and utilize appropriate outcome/progress assessment tools.
β’ Ensure timely and precise clinical documentation within 24 hours following each encounter.
β’ Identify concerns beyond the program's scope and initiate referrals for crisis services, higher levels of care, substance use issues, eating disorders, or specialized behavioral health needs.
β’ Adhere to university and program protocols regarding safety concerns, mandated reporting, emergencies, and referrals.
β’ Create transition and discharge plans.
β’ Facilitate warm handoffs and referrals to Longwood Counseling Services, community providers, or other relevant resources.
β’ Uphold confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and FERPA privacy regulations.
β’ Collaborate with designated university personnel with appropriate consent.
β’ Gain familiarity with the culture, schedules, and stressors of assigned athletic teams.
β’ Engage in mental health education, seminars, workshops, or masterclasses as required.
β’ Support utilization tracking and de-identified aggregate program reporting.
β’ Participate in program evaluation and offer insights on student-athlete needs, referral patterns, and program enhancements.
β’ Provide approximately 6β8 sessions per participating student-athlete, depending on program guidelines and clinical requirements.
β’ Follow the established care pathway from referral or self-scheduling through eligibility verification, consent, intake, therapy, progress monitoring, discharge planning, and referrals or warm handoffs.
β’ Master's level clinician: LCSW/LPC/LMHC/LMFT degree or equivalent from an accredited institution.
β’ Current, independent LCSW/LPC/LMHC/LMFT or equivalent license in the state of Virginia.
β’ At least two years of experience conducting therapy sessions as a Licensed Behavioral Health Clinician.
β’ Proven experience providing individual behavioral health therapy.
β’ Proficient in evidence-based therapeutic interventions, especially Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
β’ Strong skills in clinical assessment, documentation, and care coordination.
β’ Ability to independently evaluate presenting issues and determine when a referral to a higher level of care is necessary.
β’ Experience working with college students, student-athletes, adolescents, or young adults is preferred.
β’ Preferred experience in addressing performance anxiety, sports psychology, athletic stress, injury recovery, or team dynamics.
β’ Specialized training or credentials in sport/performance psychology is advantageous: Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) or APA Sport Psychology Proficiency.
β’ Virtual work arrangement.
β’ Flexible scheduling from Monday to Friday, 8 AMβ6 PM ET during school sessions.
β’ Contract/1099 engagement.
