This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Conducts advanced clinical data abstraction for a Level I Trauma Center to support participation in state and national trauma registries, as well as research, performance enhancement, and regulatory adherence.
• Identify, assess, and abstract comprehensive trauma patient information from various clinical and administrative sources, including EHRs, operative reports, EMS documentation, and ancillary systems.
• Systematically organize and input detailed injury and care data into the trauma registry database, recording the mechanism of injury, severity, clinical trajectory, interventions, complications, and outcomes in line with Level I standards.
• Abstract all necessary data elements for trauma patients who meet registry inclusion criteria, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and punctuality.
• Assign Injury Severity Scores utilizing AIS methodology and accurately code diagnoses and procedures with ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS.
• Leverage advanced clinical knowledge to abstract intricate cases, including multisystem trauma, transfers, fatalities, and research-eligible cases.
• Engage in both internal and external quality assurance processes, such as data validation, audits, discrepancy resolution, and preparation for ACS verification or state assessments.
• Collaborate with trauma program leadership, performance improvement teams, and clinical staff to clarify documentation and support the objectives of the trauma program.
• Stay updated on trauma care, registry standards, and regulatory obligations to ensure ongoing compliance with Level I Trauma Center expectations.
• Experience in a Level I Trauma Center is essential.
• In-depth understanding of trauma systems, injury scoring, and registry regulations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong ability to interpret clinical documentation.
• Remarkable attention to detail and data precision.
• Capability to work autonomously in a remote setting while achieving productivity and quality benchmarks.
• Up-to-date with all necessary trauma registry and coding education.
• Documentation of completion of the Trauma Registry Course is mandatory.
• Documentation of completion of the AAAM AIS Coding Course is required.
• Documentation of ICD-10 coding course completion within the last five years is required.
• Certification as an Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) and Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) is preferred.
