This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in France.
• Research on legislation, regulations, and best practices (60% of your time): Conduct organized legal and policy research for designated jurisdictions across the globe.
• Analyze primary resources, including laws, regulations, case law, and institutional frameworks.
• Address major thematic areas such as environmental and climate change legislation, land tenure systems, property rights, and legal frameworks related to Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs), encompassing FPIC requirements and governance structures.
• Accurately document findings, noting any regulatory gaps or the lack of legal frameworks.
• Monitor pertinent legislative and regulatory changes in assigned jurisdictions and translate legal discoveries into clear, structured insights.
• Project-level assistance (30% of your time): Aid in certification assessments by identifying relevant legal obligations.
• Identify and document key risks.
• Contribute research on pertinent case law, disputes, and best practices.
• Conduct in-depth and case-specific research as required.
• Due diligence (10% of your time): Conduct due diligence analysis, including background and sanction checks on developers and buyers.
• Within the first month, you will have familiarized yourself with our tools, workflows, and research methodologies, gaining a comprehensive understanding of carbon market regulations across various jurisdictions.
• By the end of three months, you will be independently performing legal and regulatory research, contributing to developer due diligence, and making informed decisions about the information that should be included in our internal databases.
• After six months, you will be fully self-sufficient in executing regulatory research tasks, analyzing legislation across jurisdictions, and consistently contributing to the quality and accuracy of our databases.
• A strong academic background in Law, Environmental Policy, Human Rights, International Relations, or a related discipline is highly preferred.
• Exceptional research skills, with a proven capability to engage with primary sources (laws, regulations, case law, institutional materials).
• A keen attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and diligence; please include the square root of 81 at the bottom right of your CV.
• Ability to work autonomously and exercise sound judgment in uncertain situations.
• Proficient working knowledge of English and Portuguese is essential.
• Working proficiency in French and Spanish is advantageous.
• Familiarity with tools like Notion and Google Workspace is a plus.
