Legal Counsel, Disputes, Incidents and Investigations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Lead intricate investigations related to regulatory and supervisory issues, fraud, whistleblower allegations, sales practices, and customer impact - from crafting investigation strategies through conducting witness interviews and forensic document assessments.

• Assist in the legal response to operational and compliance incidents, encompassing cybersecurity, market behavior, consumer protection, and fraud.

• Contribute to our enterprise crisis management, as well as incident and escalation protocols.

• Collaborate with Compliance, Risk, Privacy, Finance, and Information Security to pinpoint risks and suggest improvements.

• Oversee litigation processes and address pre-litigation disputes or complaints, including the coordination of external legal counsel.

• Offer legal advice and strategic guidance on various legal matters affecting the business and devise customized solutions for complex challenges.

⛳️ Requirements

• LL.B. or J.D. and a member of a Canadian provincial bar association with current active membership.

• 5 to 7 years of litigation experience, ideally combining time in private practice and in-house roles.

• Proven expertise in areas related to litigation, internal investigations, and/or crisis management within a regulated sector, with a preference for experience advising financial institutions, technology, or Fintech companies.
