Legal Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Serve as the principal legal advisor to the Founders and Senior Leadership Team, addressing commercial, corporate, regulatory, and personnel matters.

• Convert vague business inquiries into clear, actionable, and risk-assessed recommendations for the Senior Leadership Team.

• Integrate legal insights into product development, go-to-market strategies, and operational decisions early on to prevent issues.

• Take ownership of and continually refine the Privacy Policy, Terms of Use (including AI provisions), Acceptable Use Policy, and Cookie Policy for all THM properties.

• Lead intricate negotiations with customers in Government, Defence, Education, Financial Services, and other regulated sectors, including Data Processing Agreements, security schedules, AI clauses, and security questionnaires.

• Manage vendor and procurement contracting processes, with a keen focus on data protection, AI utilization, security responsibilities, and exit strategies.

• Collaborate with our Data Protection team on GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA / CPRA, and the broader international privacy framework.

⛳️ Requirements

• A qualified lawyer with substantial commercial experience, preferably in-house at a rapidly growing international SaaS organization.

• Proven experience working within an ISO certified environment, with practical knowledge of SOC 2 implementation.

• A history of leading customer contracts with Government, Defence, Education, Financial Services, or other regulated entities, including complex Data Processing Agreements, security schedules, and AI provisions.

• Strong foundation in privacy and data protection laws, including GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA / CPRA, and the wider international landscape.

• Hands-on experience supporting operations in the US, EU, UK, and APAC, with ideally direct involvement in a US entity launch or equivalent international expansion.

• Comfortable managing Privacy Policy, Terms of Use (including AI), Acceptable Use Policy, and Cookie Policy as evolving documents rather than one-time projects.

• Demonstrated ability to manage external legal counsel effectively while controlling costs.

• AI-savvy, regularly utilizing tools like Claude to draft, review, summarize, and critically assess your own work.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the capability to provide concise, commercial responses to non-lawyers in two sentences.
