Lead Substation Protection and Control Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +6 more locations.

📋 Description

• Lead and support design projects for substation protection and control.

• Create and enhance relay one-line diagrams that outline protection zones and system topology.

• Develop comprehensive AC schematics detailing the relationships between current, voltage, and protection devices.

• Generate DC control and protection schematics.

• Design control panels, wiring diagrams, and physical layouts.

• Assemble bills of materials in accordance with project criteria, equipment standards, and client specifications.

• Conduct quality-control reviews on wiring and schematic designs.

• Participate from initial scoping to final design, implementation, and energization support.

• Offer technical guidance during installation, testing, and commissioning phases.

• Adhere to the requirements of the National Electrical Safety Code.

• Interpret and apply utility-specific standards.

• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and CAD technicians to produce comprehensive drawing packages.

• Ensure compliance with project scope, timeline, and budget.

• Work with client standards to facilitate design implementation.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field, with at least eight (8+) years of experience in substation protection control design.

• Proven experience in leading and executing substation protection and control projects.

• Strong communication skills to interact professionally with internal teams and clients.

• Ability to meet deadlines and maintain organization in fast-paced or high-pressure environments.

• Effective teamwork skills with the capability to provide leadership when necessary.

• Self-motivated individual who can take initiative and work with minimal supervision.

• Excellent analytical and engineering problem-solving abilities.

• Advanced computer skills and proficiency with engineering tools and software.

• Willingness to travel to project sites and client locations as required.

• Commitment to quality control and safe work practices.

• Additional qualifications include Engineer Intern (EI/EIT) certification, PE License, Master’s degree, and experience in field testing/commissioning.
