Lead Substation Physical Designer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Create high-voltage (HV) physical designs from the initial tender phases through to project handover.

• Produce substation drawings utilizing knowledge of the NEC, NESC, and/or client specifications.

• Generate detailed substation layouts and elevations based on Single Line Diagrams and basic sketches.

• Compile comprehensive bills of materials for substation power equipment, HV connectors, conduit/trough, and cable trays.

• Assemble intricate drawing packages with minimal or no supervision based on sketches provided by others.

• Conduct thorough review checks of personal work as well as the work of colleagues.

• Leverage 3D modeling expertise to execute the BIM Execution Plans, use cases, and establish and work with a Common Data Environment (CDE).

• Engage in 3D model collaboration (both internal and external), 3D model auditing, and clash detection meetings and reports.

• Participate in virtual construction, design and constructability reviews, augmented reality, georeferencing, and IFC exchanges.

• Proactively promote the standardization of tools and design practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology.

• At least 7 years of experience in HV substation physical design.

• Strong understanding of electrical codes and standards.

• Extensive experience with US utility substation design standards.

• Solid technical knowledge of LV/MV/HV equipment and associated accessories.

• Ability to produce HV substation general arrangements and installation details with minimal supervision.

• In-depth knowledge and experience with the latest versions of Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD 3D, and SDS Navisworks.

• Proven MCAD skills, including general usage and tool setup.

• Familiarity with various 3D engineering design tools (such as Creo, E3D, Solidworks, Inventor) and the IFC exchange format.
