This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Zealand.
• Oversee the complete product development lifecycle, from initial concept to final production, encompassing electronics, firmware/software, and enclosure design.
• Innovate and design new products to enhance Timescapes' hardware offerings.
• Develop and maintain software for high-level applications, embedded Linux systems, and low-level microcontroller firmware.
• Enhance and optimize existing Timescapes products.
• Coordinate and manage collaborations with external industrial design and contract manufacturing (CM) partners.
• Work alongside manufacturing partners to supervise prototype creation, testing protocols, and transition to production.
• Build and maintain relationships with suppliers both locally and internationally for essential components such as batteries, modules, and cable assemblies.
• Collaborate with supply chain and logistics teams to facilitate production, component sourcing, and distribution.
• Develop and maintain thorough design documentation, build instructions, testing plans, and manufacturing guides.
• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or another closely related technical field.
• Proven experience in taking a product from concept through to market launch.
• Demonstrated capability in managing not only electrical and firmware design but also in coordinating mechanical designers, manufacturers, and post-release lifecycle support.
• Significant experience (ideally 5+ years) in embedded hardware development, including schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, testing, and debugging complex systems.
• Strong practical experience with Yocto embedded Linux development, covering kernel configuration, device trees, and root filesystem customization.
• Comprehensive understanding of various hardware domains: digital/analog circuits, power management, communication interfaces, and system integration.
• Experience in designing secure IoT systems and implementing best practices.
• Capability to manage projects from start to finish, prioritize competing demands, and work autonomously.
• Solid understanding of DFM/DFT principles and direct experience working with contract manufacturers (CMs) and external design partners.
• Knowledge and experience in navigating products through certification processes (e.g., CE, FCC, RCM, UL).
• Excellent analytical and troubleshooting abilities with a curious, growth-oriented mindset in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly.
