Lead Embedded Firmware Engineer – Contractor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.

📋 Description

• Creating production-quality firmware for Matter-enabled devices from initial development to certification.

• Taking full ownership of firmware development throughout the entire device lifecycle.

• Working in close collaboration with hardware engineers and cross-functional teams to produce devices that are ready for production.

• Engaging in hardware debugging and validation using a variety of tools to identify and resolve issues.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in professional embedded development.

• Extensive knowledge of Matter protocol implementation on Espressif’s ESP32 platform utilizing ESP-IDF.

• Proficiency in schematic review, board bring-up, driver integration, OTA updates, and ensuring certification readiness.

• Experience with hardware debugging tools such as JTAG/SWD.

• Proven track record in debugging commissioning flows, interoperability failures, and protocol-level challenges across various ecosystems (Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa).

• Contributions to open-source projects related to Matter or ESP-IDF.

• Understanding of secure boot, flash encryption, and device attestation within the Matter framework.

• Ability to interpret specifications (Matter, Thread, 802.15.4) and convert them into functional firmware.

• Must be a resident of Mexico and legally authorized to work without sponsorship on a permanent basis.
