Lead Engineer – Test Automation, Tools Development

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Create and implement tailored test automation frameworks for functional, performance, and security assessments.

• Develop reusable libraries, plugins, and command-line interface (CLI) tools to facilitate test execution, reporting, and seamless integration with CI/CD pipelines.

• Construct scalable test harnesses for distributed systems, microservices, mobile native applications, and cloud SaaS platforms.

• Write robust and maintainable code in Java, JavaScript/TypeScript to automate testing workflows.

• Integrate tools with version control systems (Git), CI/CD platforms (Jenkins, Harness), and artifact repositories.

• Containerize tools using Docker and manage test environments through Kubernetes orchestration.

• Incorporate observability into test tools utilizing New Relic, Grafana, and the ELK Stack.

• Collaborate with Quality Engineering (QE), Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)/DevOps, and development teams to identify testing challenges and deliver effective tooling solutions.

• Provide a governance model, comprehensive documentation, training, and support to empower teams in adopting and extending testing tools efficiently.

• Assess and integrate emerging technologies within the testing landscape.

• Contribute to the establishment of internal best practices for test automation, tool development, and quality engineering.

• Familiarity with AI/ML-based test generation or impact analysis.

• Experience in developer experience (DevEx) or internal platform engineering.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 12 years of experience in Quality Engineering and tools development or a similar position.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related engineering field.

• Strong programming expertise in Java with an emphasis on tooling and automation.

• Proficient in extending and customizing open-source tools such as:

• Functional/UI Testing: Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, Appium.

• API Testing: Postman/Bruno, REST Assured, Karate.

• Performance Testing: JMeter, K6, Gatling, Locust.

• Security Testing: OWASP ZAP, Burp Suite, Nmap, Nessus.

• Experience in integrating testing tools with:

• Test Management & Issue Tracking: Jira, Qmetry.

• Reporting & Analytics: ReportPortal, Allure, ExtentReports, Grafana.

• CI/CD Pipelines: Jenkins, Harness, ArgoCD, GitLab, SonarQube.

• Device Farms: BrowserStack, LambdaTest for cross-platform and mobile testing.

• Experience with test data management, mocking frameworks, and service virtualization tools such as WireMock, Hoverfly, or Mockito.

• Strong knowledge of relational (SQL) and non-relational (NoSQL) databases, alongside experience with publish-subscribe messaging systems like Kafka.

• Comprehensive understanding of RESTful APIs, gRPC, WebSockets, and event-driven or asynchronous architectures.

• Hands-on experience with leading cloud platforms, particularly Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and expertise in Kubernetes for container orchestration.

• Proficient in operating within Linux/Unix environments, including shell scripting and system-level debugging.

• Well-versed in Agile/Scrum/Kanban methodologies, focusing on iterative development and continuous delivery.

• Proven ability in problem-solving, root cause analysis, and debugging complex systems throughout the stack.

• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with a proven history of effective work within cross-functional teams.
