Lead Embedded Firmware Engineer – Matter

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.

📋 Description

• Creating production-quality firmware for Matter-enabled devices, from initial setup to certification.

• Taking responsibility for firmware development throughout the entire device lifecycle, which includes schematic review, board bring-up, driver integration, OTA updates, and ensuring readiness for certification.

• Engaging in hardware debugging and validation utilizing tools such as JTAG/SWD, logic analyzers, and protocol sniffers.

• Working closely with hardware engineers and cross-functional teams to produce devices that are ready for production.

• Troubleshooting complex, real-world interoperability challenges within Matter ecosystems (Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa).

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of professional experience in embedded/firmware engineering using C/C++.

• Extensive experience with ESP-IDF — focusing on genuine ESP-IDF tasks rather than Arduino wrappers: including CMake/Kconfig build systems, partition tables, NVS, OTA frameworks, FreeRTOS task management, and low-level driver integration (I2C, SPI, UART, ADC, GPIO).

• Direct and demonstrable experience in implementing Matter on ESP32-series silicon (ESP32, ESP32-C3, ESP32-S3, or ESP32-H2) utilizing Espressif's ESP-Matter SDK or the upstream Connectedhomeip stack.

• Practical experience with at least one Matter transport at the firmware level — either Wi-Fi or Thread (802.15.4).

• Proficient in debugging commissioning flows, interoperability failures, and protocol-level issues across ecosystems (Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa).

• Knowledge of secure boot, flash encryption, and device attestation within the Matter framework.

• Ability to read specifications (Matter, Thread, 802.15.4) and convert them into functional firmware.

• Must reside in Costa Rica.

• Must be authorized to work permanently without sponsorship.
