This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.
• Lead a team of engineers in the design, development, and operation of our employee communication platform, which is supported by PostgreSQL and RabbitMQ, focusing particularly on our structured, chat-driven workflows.
• Spend at least 70 percent of your time engaging in hands-on engineering tasks, while the remainder is dedicated to technical leadership responsibilities.
• The Flows subsystem is primarily developed in Go, with some components utilizing PHP / Symfony, while other parts of the system are built on a JVM-based stack (Kotlin, Micronaut).
• Work remotely within international, predominantly European, cross-functional agile teams.
• We adhere to modern software engineering methodologies, including API-first design, code reviews, automated testing, merge request environments for exploratory testing before integration, and selective experimental AI enhancements.
• Deploy (using Kubernetes and Helm) and monitor (with Grafana, Sentry, and Mixpanel) our services within teams, supported by a dedicated SRE team for on-call responsibilities.
• Participate in customer calls alongside your product manager to gain insights into their specific challenges and empower your team to develop solutions that address a wide range of customer scenarios.
• Take the lead on technical initiatives that are significant to you, driving critical decisions and fostering alignment across teams within our backend guild.
• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, focusing on backend systems.
• Proven experience in designing, implementing, deploying, and operating event-driven backend services, ideally with data-intensive integrations with other systems.
• Comfortable navigating between two primary technology stacks:
• Proficient in Go for backend services.
• Some experience with the JVM stack (preferably Kotlin / Spring).
• Exceptional communication skills that facilitate direct collaboration with customers, partners, and other key stakeholders.
• A desire to enhance your own skills as well as those of your team.
• Work mode: We embrace a remote-first approach, offering you the flexibility to work from home. However, we also recognize the value of in-person collaboration. Depending on your role, you will have the opportunity to attend occasional team events, workshops, or meetings in our Berlin or Stuttgart offices, with ample notice provided. The specific balance will be discussed during your interview.
• Work-Life-Balance: We encourage you not to become anchored to your desk. Therefore, we cover the costs of your E-Gym-Wellpass membership and provide job bike leasing options.
• Celebrating success: You'll work alongside highly motivated and dedicated individuals in a relaxed work environment.
• Be part of something larger: You will play a crucial role in shaping Flip. Throughout this journey, you will contribute to the rapid growth of a young tech company while pursuing your personal goals—ensuring that fun is part of the experience.
• Happy to be a Flipster: Look forward to regular team events and cultural days that foster camaraderie among Flipsters.
• Working abroad: At Flip, you have the option to work from abroad within the European Union. Let's discuss remote work possibilities during your interview.
