This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Take full ownership of significant Android product features from inception to release, collaborating closely with the Design team.
• Maintain and enhance reliability metrics for essential features.
• Write code, review pull requests, and offer constructive technical feedback.
• Assist engineers by identifying and resolving challenging issues.
• Recognize reusable solutions and streamline duplicated implementations.
• Manage shared code that is well-tested, clear, and reusable.
• Advocate for improvements in team processes and workflows.
• Minimize manual intervention necessary for accurate releases.
• Tackle recurring issues by refining the foundational setup.
• Broaden automated verification to ensure nightly QA builds confirm rather than detect issues for the first time.
• Facilitate planning sessions and direct team focus toward tasks requiring decision-making.
• Establish appropriate review levels and sign-off processes.
• Engage in discussions with Product, Design, and Engineering, communicating team constraints proactively.
• Manage critical issues, oversee feature releases, and deliver nightly builds to QA.
• Mentor early-career engineers by providing meaningful projects and dedicated learning time.
• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including leadership of a team or ownership of a significant project while remaining hands-on.
• Strong proficiency in Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience in shipping and maintaining background audio or other prolonged background processes.
• Recognize the significance of tests and understand how to approach writing them, including those aspects that cannot be covered.
• Proven experience in initiating and implementing team practices or changes that have continued post-implementation.
• Comfortable encouraging individuals to alter their workflows and managing any resulting friction.
• Skill in discerning which changes require extensive review and which do not, based on system performance.
• History of developing solutions utilized by the broader team.
• Ability to articulate how the team collaborates with AI agents.
• Intuition for product design, user empathy, and a desire to enhance Android UI/UX beyond outlined specifications.
• Self-motivated to advance the app and codebase beyond the initial requirements.
• Exceptional communication abilities.

• Experience in open source Android projects, or familiarity with iOS, Web, or NodeJS is a plus.
