This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Perform CDD and EDD evaluations for clients linked to Latin America, particularly Venezuela, while assessing risks related to geography, sanctions, corruption, PEP, and cross-border financial crimes.
• Analyze intricate individual and corporate ownership structures, beneficial owners, affiliated parties, counterparties, and multinational business operations.
• Evaluate and verify the source of funds and wealth using customer documentation, public records, adverse media, and other pertinent sources.
• Examine both domestic and international transaction activities, including wires, ACH transfers, and various payment flows, to detect unusual patterns and potential sanctions evasion or money laundering.
• Conduct sanctions screening and evaluate potential matches involving customers, beneficial owners, counterparties, financial institutions, vessels, jurisdictions, and other relevant entities.
• Assess direct and indirect exposure to OFAC programs and restrictions, including sanctions related to Venezuela, blocked individuals and entities, the 50 Percent Rule, and relevant sectoral or general-license considerations.
• Investigate possibly suspicious activities and prepare internal escalations and Unusual Activity Reports (UARs).
• Assist with onboarding reviews, periodic updates, event-driven assessments, and ongoing monitoring for high-risk international clients.
• Maintain case records, decision rationales, supporting evidence, and audit trails in accordance with internal policies and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with Compliance and Product teams to enhance risk-rating methodologies, screening and monitoring protocols, alert quality, procedures, and operational tools.
• Stay informed on LATAM financial crime typologies, sanctions updates, enforcement actions, political and economic changes, and regulatory guidance.
• 4+ years of experience in AML, sanctions, EDD, financial-crimes compliance, or risk operations at a bank, fintech, payments company, or similarly regulated financial institution.
• Direct experience in reviewing clients or transactions associated with Latin America; familiarity with Venezuela-related risks is highly preferred.
• Strong understanding of BSA/AML regulations, KYC/KYB, CDD/EDD, beneficial ownership, transaction monitoring, adverse-media research, and SAR/UAR processes.
• Practical knowledge of OFAC sanctions requirements, general licenses, sanctions screening and alert management, the 50 Percent Rule, and the escalation of complex sanctions inquiries.
• Experience in evaluating international clients, foreign-owned businesses, cross-border transactions, and complex sources of funds or wealth.
• Ability to independently analyze nuanced cases, identify missing information, document a defensible rationale, and escalate as necessary.
• Excellent investigative, analytical, and written communication skills.
• High integrity and sound judgment in managing sensitive customer and financial information.
• Comfort in a fast-paced startup environment where policies, products, and regulatory expectations are continuously evolving.
• Professional proficiency in Spanish, including the ability to review business, banking, corporate, and source-of-funds documentation (preferred).
• Experience at a U.S. bank serving international or LATAM clients (preferred).
• Familiarity with Venezuela-specific sanctions, state-owned enterprises, PEP exposure, currency controls, trade-based money laundering, and regional corruption typologies (preferred).
• Experience with sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, case management, or investigative research tools (preferred).
• ACAMS, CGSS, or a comparable compliance certification (preferred).
