This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Secure and set up containerized services managed through Kubernetes, along with their foundational environment.
• Optimize Kubernetes performance and diagnose issues by utilizing service and traffic metrics while creating monitoring and alerting dashboards.
• Oversee the lifecycle management of all containerized services utilized in the development of Kobayashi Maru software.
• Lead the troubleshooting of containerized services and produce root cause analyses (RCAs) and postmortems for the broader portfolio.
• Define Service Level Objectives and other metrics related to Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).
• Manage both north-south and east-west network traffic to guarantee the maintenance of all critical container-based services.
• Ensure that the Kubernetes environment operates effectively, is appropriately patched and configured, has adequate resources for the required applications, and is capable of scaling as needed without excessive provisioning.
• Design, secure, deploy, and manage the Kubernetes environment needed to support 14 software product teams and thousands of users across various testing, IL4 development, IL6 staging/production, and higher classification level staging/production environments.
• Create, implement, and maintain highly available Kubernetes clusters in both cloud and on-premises environments.
• Automate the provisioning, monitoring, and scaling of infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Develop and manage Helm charts for application deployment and configuration management.
• Deploy and manage applications on cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
• Monitor and troubleshoot Kubernetes workloads, networking, and persistent storage solutions.
• Apply Kubernetes security best practices, including RBAC, network policies, and container runtime security.
• Enhance the performance and reliability of containerized applications within distributed systems.
• Collaborate with development, security, and operations teams to improve DevOps workflows and cloud-native application delivery.
• Integrate Kubernetes with service meshes, logging, and observability tools such as Istio, Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK Stack.
• Engage in system upgrades, disaster recovery planning, and compliance initiatives, including NIST, CIS Benchmarks, and FedRAMP.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote knowledge sharing within the organization.
• A BS degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, STEM, or IT and 8+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 6+ years of relevant experience.
• Must be a US Citizen and possess a current Active DoD Secret Clearance.
• At least 8 years of professional experience as a Kubernetes Engineer, with a proven track record of designing and building distributed systems for mid to large enterprises, including two years of SRE experience.
• Hold one of the following certifications: Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD), Kubernetes and Cloud Native Associate (KCNA) certification, or an equivalent certification.
