Junior Environmental Engineer – Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Assist in the development, execution, and ongoing enhancement of the Environmental Management Program at headquarters and across field locations nationwide.

• Offer technical, analytical, and administrative support for environmental compliance, policy formulation, regulatory review, auditing, inspections, incident investigations, and documentation management.

• Aid in the creation and upkeep of environmental policies, procedures, directives, and related materials (such as guidance documents, forms, and communications).

• Conduct and facilitate environmental compliance audits, utilizing in-person, virtual, and self-assessment formats, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and client requirements, including audits for HQ and Transfer Storage Disposable Sites (TSDF).

• Review and revise environmental compliance checklists to guarantee the precision and completeness of audit processes.

• Support the design and delivery of environmental training programs in both in-person and virtual settings, including Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Hazardous Waste Regulations, Department of Transportation (DOT), and generator-specific training.

• Monitor and assess federal, state, and local environmental regulations and proposed rulemakings for their potential impact on operations.

• Provide analysis and recommendations to adapt to regulatory changes and uphold compliance.

• Assist in the creation and distribution of environmental communication and outreach materials for both internal and external stakeholders.

• Aid in the preparation and upkeep of environmental reports, plans, permits, and associated documentation in line with applicable regulations.

• Support environmental incident response activities, including reporting and coordination concerning spills or leaks.

• Assist during regulatory inspections conducted by environmental agencies and fire marshals.

• Maintain and support the client Environmental Management System (EMS) portal and related program tracking activities.

• Contribute to ongoing improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing environmental performance, efficiency, and compliance outcomes.

• Travel as necessary to client facilities, including airport locations across CONUS and OCONUS, to facilitate program activities.

• Prepare and submit regular reports (e.g., monthly) summarizing program activities, compliance status, audit outcomes, and key performance metrics.

• Identify, monitor, and communicate environmental risks, issues, and mitigation strategies to stakeholders and leadership.

• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including client personnel, contractors, and external partners, to support program objectives and ensure consistent execution of environmental initiatives.

• Engage in team meetings, planning sessions, and coordination efforts to foster knowledge sharing, alignment, and continuous improvement.


⛳️ Requirements

• Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain public trust.

• Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Management, or a related field.

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in environmental work, with knowledge of hazardous materials and hazardous waste regulations.

• Ability to function effectively in a dynamic environment and interact with various civilian personnel and industry partners.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).

• Demonstrate a high level of originality, creativity, and initiative with minimal supervision.

• Willingness to travel approximately 50% of the time, including frequent overnight trips to support nationwide operations.

• Detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills.

• Preferred: Professional certification (e.g., Certified Industrial Hygienist or Certified Safety Professional).
