This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Victor Energy Ltd is a powerline contractor with more than 30 years of experience in constructing Alberta's electrical infrastructure, recently acquired by Java Holdings Ltd. The team at Java boasts over 50 years of expertise in developing some of Canada's largest electrical infrastructure projects. We are currently looking for qualified Apprentice and Journeyman Powerline Technicians.
• **RESPONSIBILITIES:**
• - Experience working on steel tower transmission lines at puller/tension sites.
• - Must have hands-on experience with implodes.
• - Competence in rigging and experience in operating man-lifts.
• - Ability to climb and work at heights of up to 200 feet, while working near energized circuits.
• - Erect and maintain steel, wood, or concrete poles, towers, and guy wires.
• - Splice, solder, and insulate conductors and related wiring to connect power distribution and transmission networks.
• - Open and close switches and install grounding devices on lines and equipment under the direct supervision of a Journeyman or Foreman.
• - May climb poles or ride in a bucket to install or repair wires, arms, insulators, or other hardware on poles; install and repair underground facilities such as cables, transformers, potheads, and pedestals.
• - Install pole hardware and auxiliary equipment including transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses, and insulators using hand tools and mechanical devices. May cover energized lines with rubber goods for safe handling of high-voltage lines without interrupting service.
• - Utilize insulated poles (hot sticks) equipped with mechanically or hydraulically operated grasping and crimping tools and/or rubber gloves and sleeves to perform energized line work.
• - Capability to work at heights on wood poles, steel towers, etc., under adverse weather conditions.
• **EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:**
• - Valid Apprentice/Journeyman certificate for Powerline Technician.
• - 2 to 3 years of experience.
• **KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:**
• - Strength, stamina, and proper lifting techniques necessary to handle equipment weighing over 30 lbs.
• - Good physical coordination and manual dexterity.
• - Mechanical aptitude.
• - Good hearing and color vision.
• - Ability to work effectively as part of a team and adapt to changing tasks and locations.
• - Demonstrate punctuality and a solid work ethic.
• - Willingness to travel.
