Java Engineer, ARP/ETB Integration

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Provide support for a digital payments modernization initiative that integrates a major card network into a large financial institution in the U.S.

• Utilize domain-driven design to establish bounded contexts, domain models, aggregate boundaries, and a unified business language.

• Create and refine Spring Boot/JPA/PostgreSQL Aurora services with Liquibase migrations and Drools business rules.

• Develop authorization and data-access controls.

• Create integration workflows and routing using Apache Camel or a similar tool.

• Build a Kafka event-driven architecture, focusing on topic/schema design and ensuring producer/consumer reliability.

• Develop a Next.js/React/TypeScript micro-frontend and plan its integration with a shared micro-frontend shell.

• Manage OAuth2/OIDC identity architecture, including Okta integration, token validation, session management, and revocation.

• Design AWS IAM, S3, and CloudFront architecture across various environments.

• Lead deployment on the internal static cloud hosting platform.

• Promote test-driven development and automate continuous testing throughout the CI/CD process.

• Design and implement enterprise-level performance testing strategies and define success criteria.

• Identify and rectify bottlenecks to enhance performance across both legacy and modern service layers.

• Instrument and validate services in Java, Oracle, Tomcat, WebSphere, PostgreSQL, and OpenShift.

• Build and maintain Java backend services for card network integration using PostgreSQL and OpenShift.

• Contribute to the modernization and migration from legacy infrastructure to cloud-native environments.

• Engage in code reviews, architectural discussions, and cross-team technical planning.

• Assist with PCI data purging, token removal, event consumption, data lifecycle management, and compliance requirements.

• Act as a senior contributor across teams, translating performance findings into actionable recommendations for stakeholders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional software engineering experience, primarily focused on Java.

• Strong proficiency in relational databases; experience with Oracle and/or PostgreSQL is essential.

• Proven experience deploying and managing services in containerized environments like OpenShift, Kubernetes, or similar.

• Familiarity with Spring Boot/JPA, business rules engines such as Drools, and integration/orchestration frameworks like Apache Camel.

• Working knowledge of Kafka or comparable event-streaming platforms, including topic/schema design and producer/consumer reliability patterns.

• Practical experience applying domain-driven design in production environments.

• Skills in designing authorization and data-access controls.

• Experience in designing and managing AWS IAM, S3, CloudFront, or equivalent services.

• Proficiency in Next.js/React/TypeScript, micro-frontends, and independently deployable frontend systems.

• Experience managing OAuth2/OIDC identity flows, including provider integration, token validation, and session/revocation design.

• Involvement in at least one enterprise-level performance testing project.

• Experience with performance profiling, load testing, and resolving bottlenecks in high-throughput distributed systems.

• Ability to design logical, streamlined test frameworks from the ground up and operate with minimal supervision.

• Experience promoting test-driven development practices within a team.

• Experience developing continuous testing/automation pipelines as part of CI/CD processes.

• Understanding of PCI compliance requirements and secure data handling practices.

• Proven ability to work within large, matrixed program environments involving multiple teams and stakeholders.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Comfort in operating under evolving requirements and ambiguity.

• A Bachelor’s Degree is required; alternatively, three years of specialized training and/or progressively responsible technology work experience for each missing year of college, in addition to the minimum experience, is acceptable.
