IoT Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Engage in the planning, architecture, and development of software solutions by integrating AI, machine learning, and data-driven features as necessary.

• Produce high-quality code to create and maintain scalable, high-performance systems, focusing on security and long-term sustainability.

• Design and execute event-driven architectures utilizing DynamoDB Streams, EventBridge, SQS, and Kinesis.

• Develop serverless microservices with AWS Lambda and use container-based services with ECS/Fargate.

• Create RESTful APIs via API Gateway, ensuring proper authentication, rate limiting, and caching strategies are in place.

• Enhance system performance across the entire stack, including JVM tuning, connection pooling, and query optimization.

• Lead the deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement of systems, including AI models and analytics components.

• Perform code reviews and set coding standards across various repositories.

• Influence technical decision-making and promote best practices for cloud-native development.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, solution architects, data scientists, and external vendors.

• Oversee cross-team initiatives and integrations, focusing on dependency resolution and risk mitigation.

• Actively participate in Agile ceremonies and PI Planning.

• Facilitate knowledge sharing regarding emerging technologies, AWS services, and IoT patterns.

• Work with stakeholders to integrate solutions into broader systems and workflows.

• Monitor project progress, mitigate risks, and ensure timely, high-quality delivery.

• Manage incident response and coordinate production support.

• Provide technical estimates and support capacity planning.

• Diagnose performance, scalability, and security issues across distributed systems and data pipelines.

• Continuously refine system architecture, deployment pipelines, and infrastructure costs.

• Implement best practices in monitoring, serviceability, and operational excellence (CloudWatch, X-Ray, structured logging).

• Manage technical debt and lead system modernization initiatives.

• Contribute to the organization’s long-term technical vision, prioritizing scalable architecture and responsible adoption of emerging technologies.

• Architect solutions across multiple repositories and AWS services.

• Make critical architectural decisions regarding hybrid serverless/container architectures.

• Ensure all code and infrastructure comply with internal standards and security protocols.

• Remain updated on industry trends, research, and emerging innovations in IoT, edge computing, and cloud technologies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 14 years of professional software engineering experience with a proven history of delivering scalable, reliable systems.

• More than 6 years of hands-on AWS experience in building multi-service architectures.

• At least 5 years in technical leadership or lead developer roles.

• A minimum of 3 years managing or mentoring engineering teams.

• Over 2 years of experience working with IoT platforms, real-time data systems, or telemetry processing.

• Proficiency in AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, AWS IoT Core, DynamoDB, OpenSearch Service, SQS/SNS, Glue, Kinesis, RedShift, ECS/Fargate, Step Functions, EventBridge, CloudWatch, Systems Manager, S3 Data Lakes, Secrets Manager, X-Ray, CloudFormation/SAM, IAM, VPC, and Network Load Balancer.

• Strong proficiency in Java 17+ (5+ years of hands-on experience).

• Expertise in Spring Boot 3.x.

• Proficiency in AWS SDK for Java v2.

• Familiarity with Lombok.

• Expertise in Lambda PowerTools.

• Solid knowledge of Python 3 for AWS Glue/PySpark ETL jobs and Python Shell Scripts.

• Proficiency in boto3 SDK for AWS service interactions.

• Strong SQL skills.

• Familiarity with OpenSearch Query DSL.

• Experience in building RESTful APIs.

• Knowledge of API Gateway patterns, caching strategies, rate limiting & quotas, and OpenSearch integration.

• Strong understanding of OAuth2, JWT Tokens, API Keys, and IAM-based authentication.

• Proven experience with Docker, Maven, Make, AWS ECR, WSL2, and Git.

• Familiarity with architecture patterns such as Event-Driven Architecture, Serverless Architecture, CQRS Pattern, Stream Processing, ETL Pipelines, Microservices Architecture, Circuit Breaker Pattern, Retry Pattern, Dead Letter Queue Pattern, Queue-Based Load Leveling, and Multi-Tenancy Patterns.

• Strong knowledge in IoT and protocols like MQTT, UDP, Binary Protocol, Device Management, and Telematics Domain.

• Proven experience with unit testing (JUnit 5), mocking, integration testing, load testing, and contract testing.

• Familiarity with Log4j2, X-Ray, Trace Analysis, Service Map, CloudWatch custom metrics, business KPIs, and SLI/SLO tracking.

• Ability to apply SDLC concepts and Agile Scrum methodologies.

• Experience with multi-environment deployment strategies.

• Capability to write clean, maintainable, and testable code.

• Familiarity with CI/CD processes using GitHub Actions.

• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills.

• A track record of delivering robust applications.

• Experience configuring IDE and web application server for remote debugging.

• Ability to conceptualize technical solutions that provide a framework for detailed design.

• Understanding of the unique business and technical requirements for each engagement to facilitate clear communication and optimal solution design.

• Detailed design, development, and unit/integration testing using appropriate methodologies, technologies, and tools.

• Ability to produce client deliverables such as detailed design documentation, unit test plans, and well-documented code, ensuring the highest quality to enhance client satisfaction.
